This historic Golf Club is Ireland's oldest club. After moving from its original
location, the course is now situated on the scenic southern shore of Belfast
Lough. The course is very picturesque with many mature trees and
strategically placed bunkers. It has several tricky greens
that generally fall gently towards the Lough. The Ulster
PGA Championship has been staged here.
One of the oldest Golf Clubs
in Ireland, this is a pure championship links
experience and is rated among the finest courses
of the world. A tremendous test of golf awaits,
along with spellbinding scenery. Unlike many
of the great links courses, Royal County Down
doesn't have the traditional out and back layout;
rather there are two distinct loops of nine holes.

|
| The outward half
is closer to the sea, more sandy in nature and offers
consistently larger dunes than on the homeward loop.
Walking down the first fairway for the first time
in Royal County Down is a truly memorable occasion,
so enchanting is the backdrop of the Mourne Mountains
behind. |

To put it simply, Royal Portrush’s Dunluce
Course is one of the world's finest links courses. The panoramic views of the
surrounding area include the hills of Donegal, Isle of Islay and the Hebrides
(of Scotland) as well as the famous Giant's Causeway. This
fantastic course has many memorable holes including the 5th hole, which is situated
on the edge of the cliff and the 14th, known as 'Calamity Corner',
which has often been known as the most severe Par Three
in Ireland. The course is the only
one in Ireland to have hosted the British Open Championship
The Castlerock course on the Causeway Coast is surrounded by the sea, the railway
and a row of cottages, providing the visitor with memorable views of the surrounding
areas. The famous 'Leg of Mutton' fourth hole will challenge even the most
experienced golfer.
This championship course presents
a true test of golf set in classic links country amid
towering sand dunes with views at every turn of the blue
Donegal hills, the rolling Atlantic and the tranquil
estuary of the River Bann. The par three 6th, though
measuring only 140 yards is a superb hole, which, depending
on wind requires a shot ranging from three iron to wedge,
played to a plateau green. |
